Welcome to the Brown Self! My name is Sabrina and I like to read. I'm from Mauritius, a small island nation nestled in the heart of the Indian Ocean, and I currently live and work in Paris.

Writing use to be a knee-jerk reaction for me, something I would turn to whenever life was getting out of hand. I sadly lost the habit of writing regularly - this newsletter is my attempt to cure my writer’s block and to encourage me to develop the ideas that keep me up at night.

I will dedicate the first section of my newsletter to writing down my thoughts of the week. It can be a reaction to a news story or a comment on the latest viral TikTok Challenge. I will talk about books every now then, and, when I do, they will mostly be about books written by Black or Brown women. Themes run from work exhaustion, existential crises, feminism, writing, but are not limited to them.
